Orienteering in Devon

Orienteering is an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises mind and body. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map. It has become very popular with school, scouts etc. as it’s a great way to keep fit and to teach the basics of navigation in a fun and competitive way.

Colehayes Park was professionally mapped 5 years ago and gives us the ability to set a variety of orienteering course around the grounds. Battisborough House will soon have its own new map and course.

Once the legend or key of the map has been understood and teams know how to orientate or set their maps correctly its time to plan the fastest route to your first set of orienteering control points. When you have made it back to the check point, had time to catch your breath and had your answers verified its time to navigate to the next set of controls until eventually you have them all. As well as using our pre-set courses you can spend a little longer on the activity and have a go at setting your own course.
